Bio

Dr. Nuria Castells brings the experience of nearly 30 years in international organizations of which 20+ in the United Nations. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics, from the Free University of Amsterdam, expert on Sustainable Development and Environment, as well as on oversight, strategic planning and evaluation methodologies. She has published in international journals and contributed to books, such as the Handbook on Transdisciplinary Research. Prior to joining the United Nations, she was researcher at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, working on scientific models and policy-making on transboundary air pollution (1992-1999). After a long experience as an Evaluation Officer at the JIU, she has now moved to UNEP to be the Head of the Independent Evaluation Function of the Multilateral Fund, in Montreal. The Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer reports to the Executive Committee of the Fund, performing the evaluations requested by the ExCom members.
