Bio
Joel Rehnstrom is responsible for ensuring the independence as well as impartiality and credibility of evaluations in UNAIDS with the overall purpose of enhancing accountability, value for money, organizational learning and change. He leads the work of UNAIDS Evaluation Office, which is a structurally and functionally independent unit of UNAIDS Secretariat reporting directly to the Board, and he is responsible for the implementation of the evaluation policy and biennial evaluation plans approved by the Board.
Joel Rehnstrom joined UNAIDS in 1998 as Monitoring and Evaluation Adviser and has worked as UNAIDS Country Coordinator in China and Director of Planning, Finance and Accountability. Prior to UNAIDS, he worked with WHO and UNV in Geneva, UNDP in Yemen and UNICEF in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bhutan. Joel Rehnstrom has a Ph.D. in International Development from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Master’s degree in Public Administration from the J.F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and Master and Bachelor of Arts degree from Abo Akademi University in Finland.
