1.1 Evaluation in a Digital Age: Ethical Guardrails for AI use in Evaluation

Summary: This session will explore real-world applications of AI in evaluations of UNEG agencies in the context of the new Global Digital Compact and the UNEG paper on Ethical Principles Use in Evaluation. Participants will gain an overview over the various AI tools and AI-powered evaluation processes, discuss responsible AI implementation, and obtain practical tips on upholding ethics and minimizing risks and harms. The session will include case studies from different agencies, highlighting lessons, efficiency gains, and practices for ethical use of AI. During the session, participants will draw on findings from the Data/AI Working Group and, through interaction among the participants, explore issues such as mitigating bias, protecting data and privacy, maintaining human oversight and ensuring transparency in AI-powered evaluations.
