Overview
The GEF International Waters focal area was established to support countries to jointly manage transboundary water systems and implement the full range of policy, legal, and institutional reforms and investments
contributing to sustainable use and maintenance of ecosystem services. This study concluded that the focal area remains relevant to contemporary challenges and has achieved significant outcomes in many water bodies. However, in recent years the growth of the fisheries and marine portfolio has occurred at the detriment of other pressing concerns especially in fresh water systems.
