Overview
The UNEG Working Group on Gender Equality, Disability Inclusion, and Human Rights aims to advance the integration of gender equality, disability inclusion, and human rights across all evaluations. In order to achieve this, the working group develops and promotes guidance documents, facilitates analysis and fosters a collaborative space for knowledge exchange, allowing evaluators, practitioners, and other stakeholders to share insights and best practices. In 2014, the working group developed and published the guidance document, 'Integrating Human Rights and Gender Equality in Evaluation'. This guidance was a significant step towards advancing the principles of human rights and gender equality within the UN system.
Some of the group’s recent activities and contributions include:
- Update to UNEG Guidance on Integrating Human Rights and Gender Equality in Evaluations (2024): This updated guidance provides evaluators with enhanced tools and frameworks for ensuring that human rights, disability inclusion and gender equality are meaningfully integrated into evaluations. It reflects evolving best practices and emerging priorities in the field.
- Annual Reports on UN-SWAP Evaluation Performance Indicator (2024): The working group produces annual reports that summarize trends and good practices in reporting on the United Nations System-wide Action Plan on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-SWAP).
- Development of Guidance on Integrating Disability Inclusion in Evaluations and Reporting on the UNDIS Entity Accountability Framework Evaluation Indicator (2022): The working group has recently developed a guidance document to support evaluators in integrating disability inclusion into their work. This guidance includes a framework for reporting on the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) Entity Accountability Framework Evaluation Indicator, helping UN entities evaluate and strengthen their commitments to disability inclusion.
- Organisation of meetings and participation in evaluation events in order to disseminate guidance documents, and foster knowledge exchange between evaluators, practitioners, and other stakeholders.
Through these efforts, the UNEG Working Group continues to support gender equality, disability inclusion, and human rights by working towards the inclusion of these principles in evaluation practices, thereby contributing to UNEG's strategic objective of developing and safeguarding professional norms, standards and guidance.
