The UNEG Methods Group was established in 2019 as a working group focusing on evaluation methods and their application.

 Key achievements include:

• Published the two Compendia of Evaluation Methods (2020 and 2022), which serve as a useful resource for UN evaluators.
• Facilitated over 20 learning exchanges between evaluators from various UN- and non-UN entities on evaluation methods, including those on working with vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations, social listening, contribution analysis, developmental evaluation and stakeholder engagement, process tracing, and others.
• Strengthened partnerships by: organising joint sessions with other UNEG Working Groups; presentations at evaluation-related conferences, including the European Evaluation Society and Asian Evaluation Week; and organising webinars with external speakers from the University of Surrey, ITAD, University College of London, University of Aarhus, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, and others.

The Group currently focuses on:

• Conducting a diagnostic review on the use of methodological approaches and evaluation methods in UN evaluations, in cooperation with Zeppelin University;
• Digitization of the Compendia on Evaluation Methods; and
• Learning exchanges on evaluation methods and tools to assess climate adaptation and climate resilience of projects, programmes and policies.
