Compendium of Evaluation Methods Reviewed Volume II

Strengthening the professional capacity of UN evaluators to design and manage evaluations is a central objective of the UNEG Strategy for 2020 – 2024 as UNEG aims to support the professionalization and capacities of its membership and safeguard and bolster the quality of evaluation practice in the UN system.

Volume II, published in 2024, takes stock of how methods have been applied in concrete UN evaluation contexts during the COVID-19 crisis and is a useful resource for evaluators seeking to expand the range and diversity of methods and approaches in their evaluation work.

Compendium of Evaluation Methods Reviewed Volume I

Choosing appropriate approaches and methods are pre-requisites for credible, independent and useful evaluation exercises in the United Nations. Published in 2020, the Compendium of Evaluation Methods Reviewed is a guidance document resulting from discussions among members of the UNEG Working Group on Evaluation Methods on seven evaluation methods:

The Compendium presents examples of interesting UN evaluation practices to a wider audience, with an additional focus on the underlying principles that led evaluation managers to choose the method they did. Conceived as the first in a series of written resources, the document will be updated as the work of the group continues.
