Overview
Supporting transformational change is a strategic priority of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). In this context, transformational change can be understood as deep, systemic, and sustainable change with large-scale impact in an area of global environmental concern, such as biodiversity, land degradation, and climate change. The Evaluation of GEF Support for Transformational Change, prepared by the Independent Evaluation Office of the GEF, examines GEF performance and impact during the sixth replenishment period. The evaluation assessed a purposeful sample of GEF operations that have resulted in transformational change, identified key factors that have contributed to such change, and distilled the lessons learned. The evaluation’s purpose is to help improve the identification, design, and implementation of future operations aimed at supporting transformational change.
