The purpose of the study is to generate information and analysis of the impact
of the bicycles on girls’ education as a basis for further action on girls’
education in those districts.
The objectives of the study were to:
- Determine how many bicycles were allocated to girls in each district, the
criteria used for distribution and the state of the bicycles;
- Find out if the bicycles were used exclusively by the girls and how they were
beingmaintained;
- Investigate if the facility had helped beneficiaries to be regular and
punctual at school;
- Find out if some beneficiaries of the facility had dropped out from school or
they were in school;
- Investigate what happens to the bicycles after the girls have completed basic
education;
- Ascertain if the girls’ enrolment, retention and achievement rates in the
schools and the district had improved or not as a result of the provision of
the bicycles.
- Find out pupil, community and other civil society views on the provision of
the bicycles; and
Recommend action to be taken on the provision of bicycles to girls in the
districts.
