Inter-agency evaluation synthesis of UN system work towards the achievement of SDG 6
Overview
Five years into the 2030 Agenda is an opportunity for stakeholders to stock of what has been achieved, facilitating factors and challenges, and what remains to be done, in order to determine a path forward. At current rates of progress, SDG 6 targets will not be achieved by 2030 and SDG 6 has the greatest capacity gap, putting achievement of its targets at significant risk. While efforts to improve and strengthen data against indicators is strong, a gap remains in synthesizing evaluative evidence towards the achievement of SDG 6.
The goal of the evaluation synthesis is twofold. First, it is to provide synthesized evaluative evidence for decision makers within the UN, development banks and among key SDG 6 partners, including national counterparts, donors, NGOs, and communities on what UN-system programming has achieved, where future programming and resources should be focused and what evaluative evidence says is needed to achieve SDG 6 targets by 2030. In this regard, the evaluation synthesis will provide complementary evidence to indicator monitoring and other reviews and address the SDG 6 Global Acceleration Framework accelerator on improved data and information. It will do so by providing information on the contexts, constraints, enabling factors and lessons learned from a review of evaluation evidence. Secondly, it will provide information to UN and sister agency management teams and evaluation units on where evidence gaps remain and will guide future evaluative work planning to cover identified gaps.
