The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF and other
partner organizations, carried out a review of the Ukrainian mother-to-child
transmission of HIV prevention programme, in order to evaluate its
effectiveness over the period 2001-2003. The purposes of the review was to
highlight the achievements in preventing HIV infection in infants, identify
constraints to implementation and feasible solutions, as well as, based on
recommendations developed by review participants, an assessment of how the
programme could be expanded.
